A 21-year-old man in Chongqing with a form of elephantiasis has undergone surgery to reduce the size of his abnormally swollen foot.
Growing up, Liu Huichang was bullied by peers as his right foot continued to swell in size well beyond his other foot.
Worse, however, was the difficulty he experienced moving around. Liu’s right foot required a specially-tailored 40cm shoe, which sat next to him in bed at the Xinan Hospital before his operation.
The operation will be carried out in three phases, and while his right foot will never be the exact same size as his left, by the time he’s recovered he should be able to purchase normal shoes from a store and even play sports.
During the first surgery, doctors were able to remove 10cm of flesh from his right foot.
