A married woman in Shanghai was sentenced to four months in detention after stabbing her husband’s lover out of fury, the Putuo District Procuratorate said this week.
The ordeal began in January this year when the woman, surnamed Wu, discovered that her husband had been having an affair with a former classmate, a woman named Gu.
The woman confronted her husband and demanded to meet the xiaosan. Upon doing so, she made her husband and Gu promise to never contact each other again. They promised, but as you can guess, they didn’t follow through.
Wu discovered in March that her husband and Gu had been staying in touch through WeChat, and from there things went downhill, according to Shanghai Daily. Wu’s husband tried to calm his wife down by explaining that Gu had returned to her hometown, which of course, was also a lie.
Wu had traveled to Gu’s neighborhood, where she found the woman walking outside of her house. Furious, Wu demanded another meeting with her husband and his mistress, but beforehand, she stopped at a supermarket to buy a knife.
A fight broke out during the public meeting, and when Wu’s husband brought up talk about a divorce, Wu lost it. She went off on Gu with the knife, slashing her hands and face until Wu’s husband managed to grab the knife away from his wife.
It’s fairly common for a jilted woman to after the mistress rather than her husband in cases like these. Last September a mistress was stripped naked and publicly humiliated by a group of women in Puyang, Henan province after it had come to light that she was having an affair with one of their husbands. A similar case happened in Yulin just months before.
