A traffic officer from Jiangxi province helped deliver a baby on May Day morning in the back of a police van after a pregnant woman’s car broke down on the highway.
According to Tencent, upon receiving the woman’s call for help, three traffic officers, named as Xu Chunpeng, Xiao Jiaofeng and Zhan Guozhen, rushed to the highway which connects Hangzhou city to Ruili city of Yunnan province.
After the woman was carried onto the police car, she told the officers that she was about to have the baby. Without thinking, Xu Chunpeng ordered one of his colleagues to drive the car while he played the role of midwife. The mother and the baby were then sent to the People’s Hospital of Jingdezhen.
Thousands of web users took to online forums to express their respect for the young traffic officer Xu Chunpeng.
A web user identified as 蝶依 said, “I’m so touched by his deed. Women are most vulnerable when they are having a baby. Give him a thumbs up!”
“He’s the best traffic officer of China! But the pregnant woman shouldn’t have been out when she was about to have a baby. Luckily, she and the baby are safe and sound!” written by netizen 忘忧草.
Another user chimed in: “Good traffic officer. Give him a thumbs up. This positive energy will certainly contribute to a better society!”
In another case, an expectant mother welcomed her newborn baby into the world in a high-speed train that became a temporary delivery room with the help of some attendants and passengers this past February.
