A fire broke out this morning on a public bus in Hebei province headed for Beijing. Reports suggest that the blaze may have been the result of an arson attack.
According to witnesses on Weibo, the bus was near the highway toll gate when black smoke began to rise from the back of the vehicle. Many passengers escaped from the bus doors and windows and fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
One of the passengers, a 50-year old male, was arrested on suspicion of starting the fire. Investigation is still underway.
If the incident was indeed an act of arson, it follows a string of similar cases on public transportation in China. Last month, a court in Guizhou sentenced a man to death for an arson attack on a bus that left six people dead.
