The story of a mother from Guizhou province who has piggybacked her 13-year-old son, who suffers from progressive muscular dystrophy, to and from school each day has recently made headlines on social media.
According to Tencent, the boy named Zhao Zehong was born with the illness which has rendered him unable to move or walk independently. To treat her son’s disease, Zhang Yuankang has visited various places in Yunnan and Guizhou,
In addition to taking her son to see various doctors, Zhang has had to piggyback her son to school everyday along winding and treacherous roads as she knew he desired to go to school.
“I have no idea how long he is able to study there and how long he can stay with us,” said Zhang, “If he likes going to school, I’m willing to carry him for the rest of my life.”
The mother’s noble act has garnered overwhelming approval on Chinese social media and news portals.
A web user identified as 陈正发 wrote, “I support you. Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. I wish all mothers in the world are healthy.”
“A mother’s love has no boundaries” said user 花生糖.
Another user named 大内高手 commented, “I wish I had more money to donate to these people in need. I also hope those rich people can lend these people a hand. Money worth of a garment or a pair of shoes from you can save a life.”
