In keeping with the theme of loving mothers, the story of a 29-year-old woman in Chengdu, Sichuan province who sustained 19 bites protecting her 2-year-old son from attack by two giant dogs has been making rounds on social media.
Yuan Yan (an alias) said that while walking with her son in a local park on May 7, two dogs not on a leash began to bark at her son. Shortly after, the larger of the two dogs charged at the toddler.
Yuan Yan instinctively picked up her son and held him in her arms as the dogs attacked her. With the help of passers-by,
Yuan Yan was immediately sent to a local hospital for treatment where she required a three hour surgery to repair the damage to her leg.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the doctors found 19 wounds on her legs. The deepest wound was as much as nine centimeters long, according to Yuan’s doctor.
Sina reports that the owner of the dogs visited Yuan in the hospital on the next day and paid her 40,000 yuan in compensation for her injuries.
