An estimated 7,000 chickens suffocated to death when the ventilation systems were shut off during a power outage on a farm in Shanxi province, according to Tencent News.
The accidental purge cost the farm around 200,000 yuan of damages.
Fearing the recent bird flu pandemic and transmission of the H7N9 virus, the government asked the farm to dig a massive hole to dump all of the chicken corpses.
That’s a whole lot of chickens and one huge chicken grave.
In March, hundreds of pigs were burned to death at a farm in an Anhui province village after a neighboring resident set off firecrackers that set the hog pen ablaze. The incident led to at least 40,000 RMB in losses.
