A three-storey building has crumbled in spectacular fashion in Hangzhou, according to images recently published in a Netease News report.
Pictures show the fractured building, where a gaping chasm is what remains of the severed first floor. Miraculously, the top two tiers refused to succumb to gravity and remain somewhat intact, despite now finding themselves slumped at an oblique angle on the shattered remains of the decimated first storey.
Given the immense number of high-rise apartment building and skyscrapers popping up at a phenomenal rate across China, structural integrity and compliance with construction codes ought to be major concerns. Yet, we continue to witness the dramatic (and sometimes fatal) effects of substandard workmanship and overly-ambitious architectural designs.
