Clearly unperturbed by the recent blacklisting of four of China’s most obnoxious tourists, a visitor to a heritage site in Shaanxi province has come under siege after posing for a number of insensitive photographs.
We’ve already seen tourists land themselves in hot water for uncouth and belligerent displays, and now a young man is the victim of his juvenile proclivities after photographs emerged of him making sexual overtures toward a female wax figure at the Malan revolutionary memorial.
After climbing past the protective barrier, some members of the touring party decided to join the revolutionary figures, who have been enshrined in wax, for a photographic memento. While disdain for cultural icons is a cardinal sin itself in China, the man’s vulgar pose has stirred more trouble. In one photo the man plants a kiss on the wax figure, and in another is seen groping her breasts.
While fondling the breasts of a statue is kosher in China, it appears that the irreverent molestation of revolutionary icons is crossing a line. The man’s crass and insolent performance was possibly the outpouring of sexual frustration; and in which case, if he was so enamoured by mammaries, he could have avoided all the trouble by simply visiting the colossal cleavage rock-climbing wall in Hunan.
