It’s a situation many Chinese may be able to sympathise with: head out for a few glasses of baijiu and KTV with the lads, then wind up in an embarrassing state some hours later. However, most won’t share quite the same level of regret as this Nanjing man, who tried to taxi home sans-clothes, yet only managed to get a ride to the local police station.
When confronted with such outlandish and inexplicable scenes (which occur on a disturbingly-regular basis in China), one can only speculate over the peculiar chain of events that befell the dazed individual who found himself attempting to hail a cab completely naked at 4:00 a.m.
While it remains unclear whether the incident was the climax of a drunken bender, the hefty punishment for a lost bet, the fallout of a failed late-night romp, or perhaps simply the result of a misunderstood bohemian liberating himself from the maddening manacles of clothing; there is no doubt a fantastic explanation as to why he chose to abandon his clothes before heading home. Unfortunately, it will never be known to us.
According to NetEase, an alarmed taxi driver called police when he spotted the man staggering along the road naked. Another driver proceeded to fix up his immodest appearance by wrapping him in bath towels, before he was taken to police. He was then asked to provide his family’s address so he could be returned home safely—although they understandably might not have been so eager to receive him.
The long, raw scratches emblazoned on the man’s skin possibly hint to some earlier altercation, which may have resembled this naked scuffle in Guangdong. This is not the first time a naked person has caused havoc on China’s streets, and we suspect it won’t be the last.
