An elderly couple in Guangdong province recently celebrated their “oak tree marriage”, a term used to describe marriages that have lasted for more than 80 years.
Husband Pan Tianci and wife Gao Di have lived together for 93 years. Similar to this Wuhan couple, Gao and Pan met through an arranged marriage. When Gao was two years old, she moved in with her husband’s family as a child bride, a tradition commonly practiced in rural China at the time.
The two were married in 1934, and their entire village joined as they celebrated their 81st marriage anniversary this year. The couple now lives with four generations of family members—a total of 15 people under one roof.
According to their 60-year-old daughter, Pan went to a private school, while her mother Gao is illiterate. When her father retired in 1979, the two decided to spend the rest of their lives together in the quiet village of Heyuan.
Residents of the village told reporters that the two are often seen strolling around the village hand-in-hand. Aww. They are also known to be extremely optimistic, affable and very much still in love.
They could probably offer some tips for the couples of this generation.
