Midi electronic festival @ Taihu Lake and Funpark, Suzhou
This weekend the Taihu Midi Music Park will host the Midi Electronic Music Festival in Suzhou, only an hour away from Shanghai. Get ready for 9 stages (3 outdoor and 6 indoor), 80 artists, 48 hours of non-stop electronic music, an electronic music summit, a crazy retro fun park and…wait for it…on-site camping. Reception Party for Asian Creative Award @ ONE
Head to ONE for the reception party of The Asian Creative Awards. They’ve selected graphic artwork that will be the forefront of the Asian creative scene. Out of the 1070 applicants who entered a total of 3250 work, the IMG SRC prize was awarded to the following three artists: Emile Sarnel (Hong Kong), Quyen Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh City) and Zhao Pulu (Beijing). Quyan Nguyen and Zhao Pulu are the guests of honor. Simple snacks and beverages are provided. The exhibit itself will last until May 31 and is open from 12 PM – 7 PM. Find out more here.

Pop up beer tasting by Brew Girl @ Xin Cafe

Rock Naadam Presents: Mongolian Invasion with Guren, Duck Fight Goose, Hot Club of Beijing, The Horde & DJ B.O @ Yuyintang
Head to Yuyintang this Friday evening to see three very diverse bands joined onstage to collaborate with Mongolian folk group Guren. Mongolian folk collective Guren “invades Shanghai” – or rather collaborates, with artists representing North America, Europe, and Asia. Guren, made up of Altan-Od (khomei/throat singing and percussion) and Khongor (morinkhuur/horse fiddle), has played in Shanghai a few times now to great success. They’ll be joined by psych-rockers Duck Fight Goose, European jazz group Hot Club of Beijing and Americana hard folk group The Horde. DJ B.O will be dropping his favorite Mongolian folk, pop, and rock tunes before the show and in-between the bands.

Ever wondered what a mix between Papasuda’s tropical music, DJ [email protected]’s dance music sets and Mongolian folk music would sound like? Go find out at the YYT’s concert after-party at Kulou, where the Mongolian Invasion continues. Skinny Brown’s tropical vibes meet DJ [email protected]lle’s (“In the Trap”) dance music collab with Mongolian folk group Guren. Expect hard beats with improvised and mystical Mongolian music. Guren is composed of Altan-Od (khomei/throat singing and percussion) and Khongor (morinkhuur/horse fiddle).

Dîner en Blanc
Dîner en Blanc hits Shanghai! For those of you unfamiliar with the concept: Dîner en Blanc is a “secret” diner where people come together (in white) for a chic picnic. You bring your own (preferably fancy) picnic basket, white linen, table, two white chairs, champagne or wine (no beer or hard liquors allowed)… and simply enjoy the people around you. The First Comic Con Shanghai @ Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing (CECIS)
Reed Pop, one of the largest Comic Con organizers in America, is bringing Comic Con (SHCC) to Shanghai for the first time ever this weekend. Expect comic book artists Adi Granov (Iron Man), David Finch (creator of Batman: The Dark Knight), Billy Tan (Green Lantern), and a few Chinese artists like Benjamin, J*RYU, Zhang Moyi, Wang Maomao (creator of Tuzki, that rabbit in your WeChat animated sticker collection) there for meet-and-greets. Comic Con Shanghai will host a cosplay competition as well. LeeAnna Vamp and Nicole Marie Jean will take seats at the judges panel. Get more information here.

Opening: LLND solo exhibition @ Noeli Gallery
The mad French duo LLND are mostly known for their intense electronic music and noise. They also make compelling visual works. A series of mixed media paintings and photos of soundwaves in water, and sand installations are shown at this exhibit at Noeli. Find out more here. Until June 11.

Quorum Ballet Correr O Fado @ Shanghai Oriental Art Centre
Correr O Fado brings Fado (melancholic Portugese folk music) and modern dance together for the first time. Choreography by Daniel Cardoso, who trained at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. Maximum Rock and Roll Global Benefit Concert @ Yuyintang
Maximum Rocknroll, started in 1982, is one of the first punk zines dedicated to the counter culture. It’s completely run by punks. MRR is putting out a call all over the world for those involved to try and pitch in and help them out.
