A 22-year-old Good Samaritan from Anhui had to be rescued by a group of fire fighters from a river in Guangdong after he jumped into the water to save three drowning children.
According to Anhui Satellite TV, earlier this week when Xia Zhiwen was ready to head home after a fishing near the river, he heard some children crying for help.
Without hesitation, Xia jumped into the river and attempted to save the three drowning boys. After swimming about 50 meters, he reached two of them and began to swim them to safety.
“Before I jumped into the water, the first child was swimming while the others appeared to be drowning as they were struggling in the water.” Xia was quoted as saying. He tried hard to make it back to the bank with the two children as the tide was rising, but while swimming he became tired and his legs started to cramp up. He let one of the children go.
At a critical moment, Xia was lucky to find a rock in the water to stand on where he waited with the child for around 30 minutes before fire fighters arrived and rescued them. “He was holding a kid into his arms and standing on a rock in shallow water and shivering,” said a firefighter.
