A total of 86 couples, all alumni of the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, came together for a group wedding ceremony at the school campus yesterday morning.
NetEase reports that the school headmaster presided over the ceremony, which was held to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the university’s founding.
An alumnus from the School of International Business named Li Xiaoyu recalled the story of how he met his wife, Wang Mi, an alumna from the School of Taxation. “The first time I met her is still fresh in my memory. She was gorgeous and vivacious. I remember that I told my roommate ‘She’s the one!”’ he said.
“Not all young people will fall in love, so we’re lucky to finally get married after being together for seven years,” said Wang Mi. “During this period of time, we went through the Wenchuan earthquake, graduated during the economic crisis of 2008 and had to live apart for several years. I’d like to thank our school for arranging this mass wedding to witness our love.”
In 2011, the prestigious Tsinghua University organised a similar event for faculty members and graduates of the university, wedding over 400 couples during the two-day event.
