Yet another large-scale development has been abandoned in China, turning part of Chuzhou into a Chernobyl-like graveyard of apartment and office buildings.
Chinese news portal NetEase published these photos, which depict the decaying remains of the 2 billion RMB (US$320 million) project that began in 2009.
The dismal outcome of the lofty venture, which invested in creating a “rural trading town”, now serves only to reinforce the image of Anhui as one of China’s poorest and least developed provinces.
This is not the first time that a string of decomposing buildings reclaimed by overgrown weeds has become the failed realisation of ambitious blueprints, with similar ghost towns appearing across China recently.
While these forsaken masterpieces must haunt developers, some have become the fantasy playground for adventurous skaters. Check out this cool video of skateboarders roaming this uninhabited Inner Mongolian city.
