Police in Zhejiang province recently searched a local security guard’s home to find that he had been stealing various goods (specifically, a shitload of eggs) from the factory he worked at for an entire year.
The security guard, surnamed Gu, was stopped by police on May 12 when he was seen riding his electric bicycle back from work with two “suspicious”-looking suitcases.
After a short interrogation, Gu caved in and admitted to authorities that the suitcases were among the many, many items he’d stolen from the factory he worked at.
Pilfered soaps, brooms, toothbrushes, tissues and other basic necessities were stocked in every corner of his home, but his refrigerator was the treasure chest of stolen goods. Inside, police found two large bags of salt, a few hundred eggs and three drawers of meat from the factory, neatly stacked and labeled.
Each egg was marked with the date Gu had stolen it, so he could eat them before they spoiled. The timeframe in which he’d planned on consuming 300 eggs is not clear.
47-year old Gu, who lives alone, told the police that he started stealing items from his factory’s cafeteria and bathrooms last June. After pocketing the goods, he would store them in his electric bicycle and ride home.
Because he was never caught, he continued to take advantage of his factory for a year.
Gu has been arrested and the items in his house returned. It’s been a slow process. Two police cars were required to carry the eggs, which filled up five huge baskets.
