An 86-year-old Shanghai woman who’d only wanted to take the subway home after grocery shopping ended up 300 kilometers away in Nanjing, Jiangsu province when she’d mistakenly taken a bullet train instead.
The elderly woman, surnamed Chen, was found wandering by herself on a bullet train pulling into the Nanjing railway station at around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, Shanghai Daily reports.
Carrying a grocery bag filled with fruits and vegetables, the woman wasn’t able to properly communicate with police officers due to her poor hearing. The cops were able to reach out to her son after finding a card in her pocket with her family’s information on it.
Police later learned that the woman had spent more than an hour riding the bullet train to Nanjing after following a woman she believed was her neighbor to the railway station, thinking it was the Metro station. Railway staff helped her board a train to return home.
