Yet another nail house stands alone in China, this time atop a mound of dirt at a construction site in the Cuiping district of Yibin, Sichuan province.
In 2004, the local government approved plans to tear down the site and make way for a high-rise development. Workers have been carrying out the demolition and reconstruction since last year, but due to a disagreement regarding compensation, the owners of this lone house have refused to budge.
Even though the electricity and water supply has been cut off, the residents inside the stubborn nail house, two elderly folk, have stuck it out.
Workers have already dug out an “island” upon which the home stands, forcing the residents to walk up a mound some twenty meters high just to get inside their house. Developers fear that the mountain of dirt could collapse beneath the house.
