In a move that seriously blurs the line between loving devotion and deranged obsession, a Sichuan man has kept his wife’s corpse in an ice coffin by his bedside for six months, reports China Daily.
While there is certainly something twisted about chatting with a dead body every night before going to sleep, the man’s intentions are strictly decent as he honours his vow to (literally) never separate from her.
The unusual living (so to speak) arrangement has continued since the woman passed away from illness in December of last year; but the man may soon have to contend with authorities, as regulations stipulate bodies must not be kept longer than five days before cremation.
We often come across admirable devotion to family in China—see this hunchbacked wife who has led her blind husband with a bamboo stick for 30 years. Increasingly too, we encounter some truly strange stories when mourners find a weird way of abiding their dead spouse’s wishes. Just last month, a Taiwan woman payed homage to her husband by inviting strippers to his funeral.
