An 11-month-old baby girl threw up blood and then died after she was given two injections at a Fujian clinic to try to cure her fever. The clinic has since been shut down and the doctor involved taken away by police.
According to the mother, named Zheng Lingmei, she and her husband sent the baby to the local clinic for treatment after she developed a fever and her throat became inflamed. After checking her heartbeat and throat, the 72-year-old doctor gave the baby a shot and prescribed some medicines for the baby.
The baby didn’t seem get any better the next day, so Zheng took her back to the clinic. The same doctor gave the baby an additional injection and said that she should be given some rice soup. However, the baby’s health continued to deteriorate. She started throwing up any food she was fed and on the morning of May 23 she spit blood and her lips turned black.
Shortly after being taken to a hospital later that day, the baby passed away. The family believed that the doctor involved has mistreated the baby and caused her death. The healthcare officials and police came visited the clinic for an investigation, suspending business and taking the doctor away for investigation.
Further investigation into the cause of the baby girl is ongoing.
