A driver with epilepsy who concealed his illness and caused a fatal car crash that killed four people last year has been sentenced to life in prison, a Hubei court announced yesterday.
The driver, a 45-year-old male surnamed Zuo, experienced an epileptic seizure that caused him to suddenly veer into the opposite lane in downtown Yichang city on May 1, 2014, Xinhua reported. He ran into a number of pedestrians under a bridge, killing four and injuring another eight.
Zuo, who’d been charge with endangering public security by using dangerous means, is the first person in the city to receive a life sentence for a traffic accident.
The man had been diagnosed with epilepsy at least two years prior to the accident, but deliberately hid the information to keep his license.
