The same netizen responsible for the viral photo set depicting Avengers heroes with a touch of Chinese flare has struck again. This time, the crafty Weibo user took to Photoshop to combine scenes from popular fantasy series in the East and West.
Journey to the West, attributed to the 16th-century novelist Wu Cheng’en, is considered one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. The story has seen countless stage, TV and multi-million dollar film adaptations, and US studio Paramount Pictures is in line to make one more. J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved Lord of the Rings legendarium, meanwhile, has had box office success around the globe, with the most recent installment of The Hobbit raking in 939 million USD worldwide.
The edited images place the Monkey King (孙悟空), Pigsy (猪八戒), Monk Sha (沙僧) and their master Tang Monk (唐僧) in Middle-earth, where they travel and fight alongside the Fellowship of the Ring to become a (probably) unstoppable force.
