Just a day after Fudan University was accused of ripping off a promo video released by the University of Tokyo in 2014, the Chinese university worked overnight to get a new, more original video online.
After the producer of the video, Teng Yudong, apologized for using the same narrative style and filming techniques as the Japanese university, Fudan removed the promotional video “To My Light” and posted a new one to the school’s WeChat account last night.
The new 13-minute-long promotional video, released to celebrate the school’s 110th anniversary, emphasizes on the history of the school and its students.
A safe choice, but netizens are still not impressed. Some called the new video “boring” and “dull” compared to the original copycat video.
One Weibo user commented on the plagiarism culture in China, saying: “Does copying represent the highest academic standards of Chinese education?”
