A video clip showing two women viciously harassing openly gay Hong Kong politician Ray Chan as he’s riding the MTR has gone viral online.
Chan recorded and uploaded the footage himself, and called on web users to determine whether he’d been discriminated against by the two middle-aged women, who can be heard on film calling him a “rubbish legislator” and a “mad dog barking all the time”.
The women went on to make a number of slurs about his sexuality, according to a translated version of the video on YouTube. At one point, one of them refers to him as “a man with no penis” and a man “with a woman’s face”. It only gets worse from there.
Although other passengers step in and tell the women to quiet down, they continue on their tirade, reasoning that “we tax-payers have the right to speak up”.
The original video has racked up over 250,000 views and hundreds of comments since it was uploaded to YouTube two days ago.
Chan also published an ejinsight article about the viral incident to his Facebook account, where dozens of people have commented to show support for “Slow Beat”, a nickname given to the politician from his days as a DJ.
