A man in Shenyang yesterday purchased a 680,000 RMB vehicle using 660,000 yuan in coins and 20,000 yuan in banknotes. The coins, all rolled up and wrapped into 1,320 bundles, weighed four tons and were over four meters tall when piled up.
It took over 10 staff members more than an hour to move the stacks of cash from the truck into the store, according to Liaoshen Evening News.
The buyer, surnamed Gan, works at a gas station and explained that he collected the coins from busses that stopped to refuel. With very few banks nearby, he decided to store the coins to buy a vehicle, much to the bank’s displeasure we’re sure.
The unnamed buyer isn’t the first to spend big with piles of coins. In March, a Fujian man made a down payment on his new Xi’an apartment with 100,000 one-yuan coins.
