Former Chinese tennis superstar Li Na gave birth to a baby girl, named Alisa, this morning. The new mother posted an image of her daughter’s footprint to her Weibo account, writing: “My husband, Jiang Shan, and I would like to introduce our new daughter Alisa”.
Alisa was born on the same day as Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal. June 4 also marks Li’s Grand Slam title at the French Open in 2011. Netizens remarked on these coincidences, saying, “The baby came out one day earlier, 6/4 is your mom’s French Open victory anniversary!”
When asked if she will guide her daughter on to becoming the next tennis star, Li told reporters that she wants Alisa to get involved in all types of sports, not just tennis.
It seems that she’s got the girl’s life planned pretty far in advance, and has already decided to cut her daughter off once she reaches adulthood. “My husband and I both agree to support our child for the first 18 years,” Li said. “After that the child has to be independent financially.”
We imagine Alisa will be living a pretty cushy life until then, considering her former tennis pro mom has a net worth of 40 million USD.
China’s first and only Grand Slam champion announced her retirement in September after her persistent knee pains never fully recovered. Four months later, Li announced that she was pregnant.
