The Kunshan City Hall has recently approved two new Metro lines known as S1 and S2, which will link Shanghai with Suzhou and Kunshan.
The S1 line is 71.3 km long and has 33 stops, each 2.23 km apart. It will take off from the Suzhou New District (高新区) and end at Shanghai’s Huaqiao (花桥) Station, the last stop on Line 11.
The S2 line will go from Suzhou Industrial Park to South of Kunshan, and will include 14 stations that are connected with Suzhou’s Subway lines 3, 7 and 8.
With the new express line, it will take around 40 minutes to travel from Kunshan City to Suzhou and 40 minutes from Kunshan City to Shanghai’s Anting (安亭), a town in the Jiading district.
Traveling at a speed of 100 km per hour, the express lines will become the first inter-provincial city subways in China. Construction is planned to begin at the end of next year and is estimated to take four years to complete.
Further details about the two lines are still under discussion.
