A man who lost both of his arms when he was young has been granted extra time to complete his gaokao, China’s college entrance exam, after he was unable to answer all of the questions last year.
Peng Chao, from Panzhihua, Sichuan province, had sat the test last June but wasn’t able to complete the entire thing, as writing with his feet slows him down.
“There were questions weighted around a total of 40 points that I left blank,” he’d previously said, adding that “If there had been enough time, I would have entered ‘yi ben’ [a top-ranking university] without any difficulty.”
The Education Ministry reached out to local authorities last month, asking to make the test more accessible to those with disabilities.
Sichuan officials will now provide Peng with a special desk and chair, and he will be given (an unspecified amount of) extra time so that he can complete his exam on June 7.
