Firefighters who turned up to tackle a suspected fire at a restaurant in Vancouver were horrified when they uncovered what they believe to be a black bear paw in one of the fridges.
A call was made reporting a fire at the 5 Tastes Chinese Bistro in the early hours of Thursday morning. After arriving at the premises they carried out an inspection, which for some reason led them to take a look inside the fridges on-site.
“When first responders responded to the fire, on their inspection of the premises they discovered what they believe to be a bear paw or parts there of a bear in the premises,” conservation officer Todd Hunter told CBC News.
The discovery has prompted an investigation by the Conservation Officer Service and the RCMP to determine the legal status of the animal parts.
In 2013, officers from Shanghai’s Xujing police station also discovered a “bear” after responding to a call from a distressed resident. Netizens were quick to point out that the animal was in fact a raccoon dog.
