A suspect who robbed and killed a Chinese citizen in Dubai has been taken into custody by local police according to the Chinese general consulate.
According to Sohu, the man apprehended by Dubai police is a French citizen of Algerian origin, who allegedly robbed around 1.02 million emirati dirham (1.68 million yuan, $270,000) before killing the 21-year-old victim.
The crime happened at around 2:50 p.m. local time on June 4 at an elevator inside the Dubai Tower. The victim, originally from Fujian province, was killed while on his way to deposit the large sum of money at a nearby bank.
Based on surveillance footage, local police identified the criminal from footage which showed him fleeing the scene and caught the culprit 24 hours after the incident occurred.
