A 59-year-old from Hebei who has donated 103,000ml of blood over the past 20 years, winning several awards in the process, has recently made headlines on Chinese social media.
Li Weike is a worker at Handan Railway of Hebei province. He told reporters that he has donated 103,000ml of blood in total since he started donating in 1996.
According to Tencent News, Li was rewarded the top prize for blood donation at the Great Hall of the People in 1999.
The lucky recipients of Li’s blood can rest assured that it is of the highest quality. Since he was young, Li took part in training for long-distance running. He has entered into 137 marathons and triathlons, winning on 53 occasions.
Despite frequently travelling to other cities to participate in running events, he would always be sure to make time to donate blood to others.
Known as the “champion blood donor of Handan,” Li also brings his wife and daughter to donate blood. “Being able to help other people by donating my blood is a blessing. It’s also something that I take pride in myself,” he said.
