A large swath of blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, was discovered yesterday in Anhui province’s Chao Lake. Stretching out one kilometer to the center of the lake, the infestation appeared to have dyed the water bright green, not really the ideal condition for fishing.
Yet, unperturbed by the occasional floating dead fish, fearless residents were seen out in the water (sans facekini) to cast nets or even scoop up fish with their bare hands.
The algae bloom has apparently affected the local drinking water supply, so at least they’re making thee best of the situation.
