Fan Bingbing: Barbie muse, tabloid darling and now, local hero among the people in Hangzhou. The star of the wildly popular Chinese TV drama Empress of China has made headlines yet again, this time for her act of altruism while preparing for a TV show in the capital of Zhejiang.
On the afternoon of June 15, a five-year-old tot called Xiao Ke Le got in an electric bike accident with his aunt on Moganshan Road.
Local traffic police officer Yao Hong Feng said he heard a loud crash as their bike collided into another vehicle, and dashed out to see the little boy lying on the ground with blood covering his mouth. Yao helped move the electric bike to the roadside as the boy’s aunt carried him onto the pavement. Just as they were getting off the road, a taxi stopped right next to them.
The car window rolled down and revealed a female driver in a face mask. The woman asked if the boy needed to visit the hospital, and the three adults carried the boy into the backseat and drove off.
As the child was still crying in back, the driver took off her face mask and turned around to comfort him. That is when Yao realized that she was in fact Fan Bingbing in the flesh.
Apparently Fan was so concerned about the child’s well-being that she sat beside him in the consulting room of Hanghzou’s First Hospital as the doctor examined his injuries.
She also gave the boy’s aunt 300 yuan to help pay for his examination, since she’d apparently left her phone and purse back at the scene of the crash.
Yao said Fan stayed with boy until his check-up was over, and consulted with doctors about his condition before leaving, just like a real, non-celebrity person might do.
According to reports, Fan was shooting a reality TV show in the Liangzhu Culture Village at the time of the incident, and apparently was supposed to experience what it was like to be an ordinary taxi driver. Pretty gripping stuff.
Fortunately, she was accompanied by one Korean photographer who was there to document her every step throughout the ordeal.
Hail Empress Fan!
