One person was left dead and four more injured when an elevated section of the Guangdong-Jiangxi Expressway, which heads towards Heyuan and exits at Seongnam, collapsed at around 3:00 a.m. this morning.
According to Heyuan Daily, several trucks were driving across the 20-meter tall ramp when it suddenly toppled.
Four trucks loaded with clay could be seen turned over on the ground, with two remaining on the collapsed ramp.
Firefighters rushed to the scene in the early hours of the morning and retrieved a body at 5:25 a.m. The four injured sustained minor wounds and are being treated in the hospital.
Police are still conducting investigation and counting the number of casualties. The cause of the collapse is unknown.
The expressway’s Seongnam entrance, which exits for Meizhou, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, is now closed. Traffic has otherwise resumed as normal.
