At the invitation of Chinese president Xi Jinping, King Philippe of Belgium and with Queen Mathilde, arrived at around midnight on June 20, in Wuhan to begin a week-long state visit to China.
During their stay in Hubei, King Philippe and his entourage will visit Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Wuhan University. Queen Mathilde will also visit the Hubei Museum of Art and talk with local artists and students.
According to China News, several treaties regarding trade, environmental protection, technology, education and culture will be signed between the two countries.
China and Belgium established diplomatic relations in 1971. This is not the first time that King Philippe has travelled to China, or in fact to Wuhan. The king visited previously in 1986 when he was a prince.
