If sinkholes and ramp collapses haven’t already scared you off of the roads, you can now add incoming circular saw blades to the list of terrifying reasons to never, ever drive again. In a scene that seems more fitted for a Final Destination film, a man in Chongqing was nearly sliced in half as a 60-inch circular blade came flying towards his pickup truck on the Chongqing-Guizhou Expressway last Wednesday afternoon.
The car shop worker, surnamed Xiang, was driving from the Wansheng district towards Chongqing at around 3:40 p.m. when he suddenly heard a loud crashing sound from the opposite lane of the road. He noticed the trees shaking at a median strip some 10 meters away before a giant circular blade came bouncing out of the bushes and rolling towards him with increasing speed.
“I just heard a ‘bang’ and then I saw all the white smoke in front of me,” Xiang recalled a day after the incident, his voice still trembling. “I almost lost control of my car.” .
When he got out of the truck, he was shocked to see the giant circular blade wedged into the front of the vehicle about 50 centimeters deep.
Authorities said the blade came from another pickup truck loaded with equipment in the opposite lane. The truck driver had lost control and hit the median strip, causing three or four loosely attached blades to be thrown out of the back.
An officer at the scene told reporters that had the blade hit the car at a slightly different angle, or had Xiang been driving a little bit faster, it could’ve hit him.
