The driver of a white Land Rover last week ran his car into a river as he attempted to avoid a wandering cat in Huai’an, Jiangsu, causing one million yuan in damages to the vehicle.
No living creatures, human or cat, were harmed during the incident. Due to a recent bout of rain in the area, however, the water level of the river was especially high and the vehicle was nearly completely submerged.
“The cat darted from the bush, and without even thinking I turned the wheel sharply to towards the river and escaped from the car,” the driver of Land Rover said.
The SUV was pulled from the river with a crane, but the engine was so badly damaged the car could no longer start.
The driver commented that “as long as the passengers and the cat are safe, it doesn’t matter if an expensive car is damaged”.
