Surveillance footage caught the moment a middle-aged man in Hubei pulled a young woman out of her bus seat then pushed her to the ground after she’d reportedly refused to let him sit down.
In the footage, the man in his 60s can be seen entering bus No. 805 at Xudongcun Station before approaching a young woman in a yellow shirt. The female passenger shoos him away, prompting the man to grab her by the arm, drag her out of her seat and throw her towards the front of the bus.
“Everyone on the bus was criticizing him for his impulsive action,” a passenger surnamed Pi later told reporters.
Instead of apologizing, the disgruntled man reportedly told passengers that they were all “terrible people”, arguing, “you should be on my side instead of helping the one who wouldn’t offer me a seat.”
He also claimed that one of his legs was paralyzed.
The woman later explained that she hadn’t offered her seat because she thought the man was a beggar and ignored him.
The incident recalls similar stories from last year that had sparked some serious debate over seat etiquette when it comes to younger and older people on public transportation.
