A young woman had to be rescued by firefighters after her leg slipped through a storm drain cover as she was busy fiddling with her cell phone in Jiangyou, Sichuan province.
After passersby were unable to pull the woman’s leg out, firefighters were called to the scene to assist. By the time they’d gotten there, her left leg had already gone numb from being jammed between the two bars of the grill-covered drain, unable to move.
Firefighters used rescue tools to carefully dismantle the bars as the young woman was still wedged between them. After five minutes, her leg was freed from the “trap” but still needed time to recover from the numbness.
The incident prompted Chinese news portal xinmin.cn to lecture China’s “head-down” generation, once again, about the importance of keeping their eyes off their phones and on the road. Unfortunately, previous instances have seen much more tragic outcomes than just a numb leg.
“I guess it’s not always good to be skinny,” one netizen commented in response to the story. So, yeah, that too.
