A Sichuan student who lost his arms when he was young and managed to complete the national college entrance exam, or gaokao, with only his feet received an impressive 603 points on the test, qualifying him to apply to top universities across the country.
Earlier this month, Peng Chao was granted an additional 45 minutes to complete his test after he ran out of time while sitting the exam last year.
“My dream school is Zhejiang University,” Peng told reporters after he’d finished the last portion of his exam weeks ago. “I feel better this year about my test than last year.”
Despite his high score, Peng is still worried that he won’t be able to pursue his desired major, civil engineering, because of his disability.
The student is apparently quite computer savvy, and his father commented that while the family wants him to study computer science, “we respect his choice to get into civil engineering”.
“I’m ashamed with myself for having two healthy arms and hands and not getting a high score on the test,” an anonymous web user said in response to Peng’s high score.
