Video footage showing a woman slapping and verbally abusing her wheelchair-bound mother on the streets has gone viral on Chinese media.
The video, running one minute and 54 seconds long, was recorded on a phone by a passerby. A woman is seen in the footage slapping the arm of her mother, seated in a wheelchair, with great force at least eight times. She even threatened to chop her mother’s arm off.
“Push it down,” the woman yelled multiple times, urging her mother to let down the footplate. “Can’t you hear me? Push it down!”
Apparently, her immobile mother did not manage to do so. Noting that her mother was not responsive, she repeatedly slapped her face and arm with even greater force while yelling “use this arm!”
The woman’s violent behavior caught the attention of passersby, some of whom threatened to call the police.
The woman continued hitting her mother, yelling to pedestrians to “go ahead and call the police!”
Onlookers who asked the wheelchair-bound woman questions about the abusive woman’s identity came to learn that they were indeed mother and daughter. Some warned the woman that the abuse had been captured on video and that she had to stop.
“Karma will get you,” one passerby said. “I don’t care about karma!” the woman replied before leaving the scene with her mother.
According Guangdong TV, the abuser, 39, lives with her parents and brother in Macau. She is solely responsible for taking care of her mother, who suffered from stroke, her elderly father and her mentally-disabled brother. It was speculated that she abused her mother because of accumulated pressure.
