Typhoon Kujira made landfall in the coastal city of Wanning, Hainan province on Monday evening, bringing winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour along with it. The powerful storm managed to blow two freight ships and one passenger ship all the way to the shores of Sanya Bay yesterday.
A fish farm near the coast also fell victim to Kujira, and was left partially beached after being hit by strong winds and waves.
More than 40,000 people have been evacuated from the island province as more than 20,000 fishing boats were called back to harbor, according to CCTV News. Kujira, the first typhoon to hit China this year, formed in the South China Sea on Sunday.
