A man in Wuhu, Anhui Province who decided to get behind the wheel after a night of hard drinking drove straight off the road and into the Yangtze River
Traffic police were unable to locate the driver when they found the vehicle submerged in the water, and feared that the driver had drowned.
Officers quickly pulled the car out of the river and carried out a two-kilometer-wide search in an attempt to retrieve the driver’s body.
Meanwhile, the driver, very much not dead, was still at home sleeping it off. Surveillance footage from the night before showed that the man had climbed out of the river and, dripping with mud and water, stumbled along the road to go home.
Traffic police traced the car’s license plate and found the driver sound asleep in his home.
The driver admitted to drunk driving and plunging his vehicle into the Yangtze River. Once he was in the water, he said he immediately sobered up and climbed out of his car, ready to call it a night.
The driver was arrested for drunk driving and could face up to a year in prison.
