A 19-year-old performer in Hulin, Heilongjiang province told police that he had followed a middle-aged woman into a public restroom and raped her because he was “too drunk”.
The victim, surnamed Wang, reported the assault to police just after it occurred in the early hours of the morning on June 21.
Zhang Qidong, a popular song-and-dance duet performer in Hulin, was later identified as the perpetrator.
The singer, originally from Jilin, said he’d been out drinking with friends to celebrate a successful performance the night before the assault. Boozing until the early hours of the morning, he occasionally saw Wang walking to the public restroom and at one point decided to follow her.
“He first walked into woman’s restroom but apologized for his mistake and walked out,” recalled Wang. “He walked in again seconds later and choked me with both of his hands, threw me on the cement ground then raped me.”
After Zhang sobered up, he admitted to the sexual assault and blamed it on being intoxicated.
“It’s all because I drank too much,” he said. “I’m really regretting it now.”
