Photos captured the heartwarming moment a Taiwanese police officer helped clean the body of a 68-year-old man who hadn’t been able to take a shower for days before taking him to the hospital.
The elderly man, surnamed Lin, was living alone in a small house in the Cijin district of Kaohsiung city when the head of the lane he resided in noticed that he had not left his home for days. Worried that the live-alone man might’ve gotten in an accident, he informed the police on June 6.
Two local police officers, He Zhi and Tong Ren, arrived at the house to see a weak and frail looking elderly man lying on a bed, with a noticeable smell emitting from his body.
While waiting for the ambulance, out of compassion, He Zhi took the initiative to clean the elderly man, who had not taken a shower for days, and helped him put on clean clothes. The police then offered the man some water.
The sweet moment was captured on phone by Tong Ren, who posted the photos onto Facebook this past Monday. The images garnered hundreds of “likes” and comments from netizens who extended their gratitude towards He Zhi for sending the man off to the hospital “with dignity”. One stated that sometimes what people need is not financial aid, but “genuine love and care”.
According to reports, Lin, who suffered from many diseases, struggled to take care of himself so much that sometimes he had to skip some meals. He had fallen ill and could not leave the house for days.
