A group of elderly Communist Party members hiked through revolutionary sites in Hunan province, Hubei province and Jiangxi province to commemorate the upcoming 94th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party.
According to Xinhua News, the elderly people were dressed in red army uniform so as to carry forward and cultivate the spirit and culture of the red revolution. Among the participants, the oldest was 86 years old and has been a Communist Party member for 50 years.
Pingjiang county of Hunan province, from which the group began their march, is an important site in Chinese revolutionary history. While stationed in the area, the Communist Marshal Peng Dehuai led a rebellion against the Kuomintang, known as the Pingjiang Uprising.
Tang Disheng, a 77-year-old participant told reporters that the younger generation should cherish the good life that revolutionary martyrs fought for at the price of their lives. “We’ll share our experiences with the young people in our family so as to carry forward the revolutionary spirit.”
