Move over, Yi Tin Chen. It seems as though the popularity of “Taiwan’s hottest bean curd seller” is being rivaled by a female vendor who’s become known online as the “Pork Princess”.
Zhang Caijie reportedly quit her night classes at Fu Jen Catholic University two years ago so she could help sell pork at her family’s stall in Dongmen Market, Taipei. The shop grew in popularity after customers, and apparent admirers, posted her pictures online.
But unlike the bean curd vendor, who also works as a promotional model, Zhang doesn’t seem to be welcoming her growing fame with open arms. Even less is she thrilled with her new nickname, which she says “sounds greasy”.
She does admit, however, that there’s nothing glamorous about her job.
“I often cut my hands [while working],” she told reporters. “Pigs’ knuckles and bones are generally huge”.
“Crowds of people are buying the pork in an attempt to exchange numbers and [social media information],” Zhang added. “But I never do.”
