A 19-year-old male student succumbed to injuries sustained during the horrific “party powder” explosion at a Taiwan water park last Saturday, making his the second reported death from the incident.
Liu Zhiwei suffered serious burns to nearly his entire body and died yesterday morning at the Rongzhong Hospital in Taichung, Taiwan.
“More than 95 per cent of his skin was burnt and his respiratory system damaged when he was admitted to hospital,” a doctor told reporters outside of the hospital.
“After emergency treatment, his family did not want to see him suffering any more and decided to let him go,” the doctor said.
Liu was a student at the Taipei College of Maritime Technology, Sina News reports.
Two of his favorite celebrities, singer Jolin Tsai and the famous designer Wu Jigang, sent him flowers and recordings in the hospital encouraging him to pull through. Sadly, he was too severely wounded.
The first fatality from the blaze was 20-year-old Lee Pei-yun, who’d suffered burns over 90 percent of her body and died on Monday.
Nearly 500 people were injured when colored powder thrown in the air during a Color Play Asia party at the Formosa Fun Coast Water Park exploded into flames. Around 200 people are still in critical condition.
