A 23-year-old woman who was twice abducted and sold into marriage has finally been reunited with her family after a horrific seven year ordeal.
According to NetEase, Xiao Hong (an alias) was born in 1992 in Guangnan county, Yunnan province. In 2005 she went with her parents to Guangdong as they looked for work. Two years later, she began work at a handbag factory and met her first kidnapper, named A Zhong.
Xiao Hong fell in love with A Zhong, but he later told her that his parents disapproved of their plans to marry. While waiting for a train with A Zhong’s uncle, named Wen, at Guangzhou Railway Station, he passed her a bottle of water which she drank. When she woke up she was back in Yunnan.
“After I sipped a bit of water, I felt dizzy and I found myself in Yunnan,” she said. When she came round, she was lying on a bed in a dark room. She tried to run away but Wen stopped her and threw her back to the bed. Wen threatened to kill her if she continued to resist.
Not long after, Wen and another man, surnamed Xiong, sold her to a man surnamed Tang for 5,000 yuan in Henan. Her new captors kept her drugged up to the point at which it took her several months to realise she had been sold into marriage.
In deep despair, she attempted to kill herself by slitting her wrist and drinking poisoned wine. Her new mother-in-law then hid everything from her that she could use to commit suicide.
As she was unable to give birth, Xiao Hong was sent to hospital for an operation to correct her ovaries. After she returned home from the hospital, she was raped by her father-in-law. “He threatened me at that time and said if I got pregnant, the baby would be his son’s,” she said.
After her first husband died from illness, his family were eager to recoup their investment. Xiao Hong was then sold again for 5,000 yuan by Tang’s family to another man surnamed Wang.
Arriving at Wang’s family, her freedom was again restricted. Her new mother-in-law told her: “We can set you free to earn money to help us build a house if you give birth to two babies first.” Her first son was born in 2009 and a second a year later. Her mother-in-law then demanded she be sterilized.
Following the procedure, she then went to Shenzhen with her second husband to look for work. During her second year in Shenzhen she came across a friend from her hometown and began to plot her escape.
After learning her parents were working in Yangjiang city of Guangdong province, she went alone to reconnect with her long-lost parents.
“I hate those who betrayed me; I hate those who hurt me; I hate those who ruined my youth. My life was destroyed by them all,” Xiao Hong wept. “My dad has hated my mother for an entire seven years following my abduction. He thought she knew why I had gone missing.”
Accompanied by her parents, Xiao Hong went to police to report her ordeal in July, 2014. The Guangzhou Police caught A Zhong two months ago in Yunnan. At the time he had just released on parole while serving a five year sentence from a separate kidnapping case. His uncle was also in jail.
