Dozens of children gathered at a theme park in Binzhou, Shandong province over the weekend to take part in an age-old Chinese tradition: pretending to shoot down “Japanese devils“. The kids gleefully attacked China’s former enemies with streams of pressurized water pumped out of adorable Spongebob Squarepants backpacks to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the “victory in the anti-Japanese war”.
Whatever, just go with it.
Over 10 children posed as members of the Eighth Route Army, which fought under the command of the Chinese Communist Party during the Second Sino-Japanese War. They were “armed” with water guns and water balloon bombs, fighting against five theme park employees dressed as “Japanese devils”. Staff members who were defeated were paraded around on the streets like the losers they were.
These kids seem to know exactly what they’re doing, although we assume they’ve probably had a lot of practice.
